19TH OPHTHALMOLOGICAL CAMPAIGN IN SABANA YEGUA (DOMINICAN REPUBLIC)

In this year 2026, once again a team of volunteers from the United States visited us, especially from Saint Mary’s Parish in Kenosha (Wisconsin), to carry out the annual ophthalmological campaign. On this occasion there were 23 people, joined by a group of 10 volunteers from our parish in Sabana Yegua and members of the local Lions Club, as well as two Dominican optometrists.
Once again, the campaign was a success. Despite the fact that some volunteers arrived two days late due to the storm in the United States and the subsequent flight cancellations, the operation was able to be carried out from Tuesday, January 27 to Saturday, January 31. Medical examinations were performed on 877 people and eye drops and lenses were donated according to their needs. The most serious cases will receive follow-up in our area.
We give thanks to all the people who selflessly participated in this campaign and who helped preserve the sight of many people from Sabana Yegua and the surrounding towns.
